Planning guide

A possibility is a beginning.
Give it a next step.

Five questions to help you investigate a career direction before investing more time in it.

A useful plan does not need to predict the entire transition. It needs to make the next investigation specific enough to act on.

1. What experience can I demonstrate?

Name the capabilities you have used and the work that shows them. Separate an occupation’s typical profile from your own current proficiency.

2. What does the new work actually involve?

Look at tasks, tools, environment, schedule, and working relationships. A job title alone leaves much of the daily experience unexplained.

3. What preparation is required?

Investigate education, credentials, licensing, and experience. Check requirements with the relevant provider or employer.

4. Who can help me test the idea?

Identify someone doing the work, a counselor, or a potential mentor. Bring focused questions to an informational conversation.

5. What will I do next—and when?

Choose a concrete action, set a timeframe, and record what you learn. Revisit the plan as new evidence changes your understanding.
